We at My Emissions employ a comprehensive methodology to measure carbon emissions for individual products and meals, fully aligned with the GHG Protocol Product Standard. Our approach has been independently audited by W2R Solutions.

System Boundary

The system boundary of My Emissions calculations covers emissions from farm to store, incorporating Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.

  • Farming: includes emissions from land preparation, growing, harvesting, and inputs like fertilisers and animal feed. Land-use change emissions are also accounted for.

  • Processing: emissions from ingredient and product processing, such as energy consumption in manufacturing and cold storage throughout the supply chain.

  • Packaging: encompasses emissions from materials used for ingredient and product containment, shipping, and sales.

  • Transport: includes emissions from transportation of both ingredients and final products from origin to store or customer.

Data Sources

We use a combination of primary and secondary data to ensure accurate emissions calculations. Primary data is inputted in to the platform by clients and includes recipe details, packaging specifications, manufacturing energy use, and transport routes.

Secondary data is sourced from the My Emissions database, which contains emissions factors for over 3000 food items, packaging materials, and transport modes. This database is supported by environmental datasets like Ecoinvent and Agribalyse, research publications, and expert advice from Dr. Angelina Frankowska, a specialist in sustainable food systems.
